It might surprise you to know that I don’t *always* recommend investing in a social media strategist.
When you first start your business, cash flow is tight (you don’t need me to tell you that) and your business is in the early stage so there are kinks to work out.
My short time at a startup taught me that in the first couple of years your brand will have several iterations. You might rebrand, change the product, change the formula, change who you’re marketing to, etc.
Which is why I highly encourage entrepreneurs to DIY their marketing for the first year or two.
Aside from saving your tight cash flow for rebrands and investments in your product suite, this allows you to get firsthand experience of running your own social media. You’ll speak directly with your customers and get to know them firsthand, which will help you learn how to cater your business to their needs, while also giving you the insight you need to find the right social media strategist for your business when you are ready to invest.
Now that lil’ disclaimer is out of the way – let’s say you’ve been in business for a few years and are considering outsourcing.
Here are six reasons to invest in a social media strategist.
If your business is growing, it’s likely that your social media is too. Maybe you need to post more often because your product suite is growing, or you’ve got too many DMs and comments to handle (the best problem!).
A social media strategist can take on all your social media related tasks so you can keep on growing your business. Which leads us into reason #2 to invest in a social media strategist.
This is the telltale sign that you should invest in a social media strategist.
If social media is taking up too much of your time, so much so that you don’t have time for operations, development, important administrative tasks, then it’s time to invest in a social media strategist. They can take strategy, reporting, and content creation off your plate so you can focus on what you do best.
Now, let’s say social media is taking up a lot of your time, but you love it. So you want to outsource other tasks in your business. Fair enough!
But what if you’re not seeing results?
You might love planning a value-packed social media calendar and creating all kinds of content, but if you’re not seeing the results you’re looking for it’s time to bring in an experienced social media strategist who’s got the skill set, knowledge, and time to dig into your brand’s social and get those results you’re after.
This is my time to plug Clarity Calls and the 48-Hour Fix, two services designed for entrepreneurs who love running their own social media but need growth guidance.
Social media changes constantly. It’s the bane of every social media strategist and every entrepreneur.
And it takes a lot of time to stay on top of.
If researching social media trends, best practices, and staying on top of the endless app updates and changes isn’t for you, investing in a social media strategist is.
You’ve probably heard that posting consistently can help you grow on social media. It’s not the only thing that’ll help you grow but it is important. Posting a similar amount of content on similar days and times of the week can help you grow, especially over a long period of time.
If you’re struggling with posting consistently, it’s time to invest in a social media strategist. They can create and post on a consistent basis, all you have to do is approve the content!
It is 10000% fair to dislike being on social media. We know it’s not great for us. Between the filters, comparison, and FOMO, social media can be kind of awful for our mental health.
If you have no desire to be on social media *yourself* but want your business to thrive, investing in a social media strategist allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds.
