FRAMEWORK FOR CPG SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING
I don’t always recommend investing in done-for-you social media content.
For a few reasons. When you first start your CPG business, cash flow is tight, if not nonexistent. And you’ll probably have several iterations in the first year. You might rebrand, rename, change the product, change the formula, change your target audience, etc.
And let’s be blunt: 85% of CPG brands don’t make it past the two year mark. As a result, I highly encourage CPG founders to DIY their social media marketing until they’re in a more stable stage of growth.
This method also allows you to get firsthand experience of running your own social media marketing. You’ll speak directly with your customers, get to know them firsthand, and learn what kind of social media strategist your business actually needs.
Now let’s say you’ve been in business for a few years and are considering hiring an out-of-house social media strategist. Here are seven signs it’s time to invest in done-for-you social media content.
If your business is growing, it’s likely that your social media is too. Maybe you need to post more often or you’ve got too many Instagram comments and DMs to handle (the best problem).
A social media strategist will take on all your social media marketing so you can focus on growing your business.
This is the telltale sign that you should invest in done-for-you social media content.
If social media marketing is taking up too much of your time, so much so that you don’t have time for operations, product development, and overall growth strategy, then it’s time to make a chance. Done-for-you content with a qualified social media strategist will take strategy, content creation, analytics, and constant improvement off your plate so you can focus on what you do best.
Let’s say social media is taking up a lot of your time, but you love it and you’re good at it. So you decide to outsource other tasks, like bookkeeping. Perfect!
But what if you’re not seeing results?
You might love creating social media content, but if you’re not seeing the results you’re looking for, it’s time to bring in an experienced CPG social media strategist who’s got the skill set, knowledge, and time to dig into your brand’s social and get those results you’re after.
This is my time to plug Clarity Calls and the Instagram Account Audit, two services designed for CPG founders who love running their own social media but need growth guidance.
While you don’t need to stress about keeping up with trends, for best results you do need to keep up with best practices. Social media changes constantly. It’s the bane of every social media strategist and every founder.
And it takes a lot of time to stay on top of.
If researching social media trends, best practices, and staying on top of the endless app updates and changes isn’t for you, investing in a social media strategist is.
You’ve probably heard that posting consistently can help you grow on social media. It’s not the only thing that’ll help you grow but it is important. Posting a similar amount of content on similar days and times of the week can help you grow, especially over a long period of time.
If you’re struggling with posting consistently, it’s time to invest in a social media strategist. They can create and post on a consistent basis, all you have to do is approve the content!
It is 10000% fair to dislike being on social media. We know it’s not great for us. Between the filters, comparison, and FOMO, social media can be kind of awful for our mental health.
If you have no desire to be on social media *yourself* but want your business to thrive, investing in a social media strategist allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds.
